Austin’s Bulldog Solutions takes healthy bite out of lead-generation market
In the sports world, Bulldog mascots abound. But at one Austin company, the employees are Bulldogs—tenacious, loyal and committed.
Bulldog Solutions Inc., a provider of B2B online marketing services, is named after Auggie, the late pet bulldog of co-founder and President Todd Davison’s family. Auggie was named after Gus McRae, Robert Duvall’s “Lonesome Dove” character.
“Successful Bulldogs are generally those who are adaptable and tenacious,” says Amy Bills, director of field marketing at Bulldog Solutions.
Today, 48 Bulldogs work at the company, with 46 in Austin, one in San Antonio and one in New York. And Bulldog Solutions is bringing on more people at its corporate “doghouse” at 5608 Parkcrest Drive in North Austin.
The company plans to add as many as six employees in Austin before the end of this year. “Growth will continue in 2011,” Bills says, “but those numbers are not firm yet.”
Currently, Bulldog Solutions lists five open positions on its website: senior software developer, business development executive, account manager, project manager and web production designer.
Bills says job openings at Bulldog Solutions are posted first on the company’s “Ministry of Culture” page on Facebook.

If Bulldog Solutions’ revenue growth is an indication, the employee roster should expand at a steady clip next year.
In 2009, revenue hit $5.9 million, up 30 percent from $4.6 million in 2006. That growth rate put Bulldog Solutions at No. 4,116 on this year’s Inc. 5000 list of the country’s fastest-growing private companies.
“Bulldog Solutions works with some of the best business brands in the world to ensure they’re able to generate qualified, sales-ready prospects and prove marketing’s contribution to sales revenue,” co-founder and CEO Rob Solomon (top photo) says.
Anyone who joins Bulldog Solutions will learn that the business and the culture are intertwined. For instance, the company throws an annual Halloween party (second photo), overseen by the official “Minister of Culture,” and lines the hallways with vintage music posters. Those culture boosters help with business issues like retention and recruiting, the company says.

While Bulldog Solutions looks and feels like a startup, it technically isn’t. The company was founded in 2002 by Davison and Solomon. The company picked up $5 million in venture capital from SSM Partners in 2007. Subsequently, Bulldog Solutions attracted a smaller investment from Stonehenge Growth Capital.
Customers of Bulldog Solutions’ lead-generation services include AT&T Inc., CompassLearning Inc., Dell Inc., Hoover’s Inc., IBM Corp. and Intel Corp.
“Bulldog’s demand-generation solutions are on the cutting edge of this space,” Bills says.
“As such, it’s not unusual for us to really help our client champions become ‘stars’ in their own organizations. This is a win for us and for them, and it’s very gratifying for our teams when they see how they’ve enabled our clients to be successful.”
